There are a surprising number of quilts out there without borders! If it looks good, go for it. Just remember to handle it carefully around the edges when you're quilting it.

Here's a scrappy-looking (actually it's about 30 fabrics) quilt I made with no borders. You can just see the binding on the side that's hanging over the bed, it's dark brown.
