The past few months I've been telling EVERYONE I know that I'm looking for fabric scraps to make 1.5" squares for my postage stamp quilt.

Guess what my brothers rounded up for my birthday? You got it! Every guest gave me a box of scraps...some of the boxes were very large!

They were so proud of themselves! For the last few months they had people going to the Goodwill and garage sales gathering up fabric, and asking their relatives for scraps.

What a lovely gift!!!!

That, and the 60 helium filled balloons in my greenhouse. Which they did in the middle of the night. Along with 60 large home-made candles in the front yard.

What a great birthday they made for me!

Way cool of your brothers!!! Can you have your brothers call mine & coach them on the "how-to's" of making your sis feel really, really special? lol Happy birthday - I'm glad it was such a great one for you!

   HAPPY  BIRTHDAY  TO  YOU

How nice that they made sure they personalized your birthday with such special memories and gifts!!

Great brothers indeed .... have a feeling that you have made their birthdays very unique in the past, as well. Perhaps?

Now, please do tell what a postage stamp quilt is .... I'm guessing it's all 1-1/2" squares together. What else?

Thanks!

Now be sure to make your special day one that is filled with memories!

It was interesting. I had NO expectations from them regarding my birthday.

I'm the girl and the oldest, and they're 4 guys. I'm always the one that organizes these things and they just follow the directions.

On the other hand, I've always made an effort to make their birthdays fun.

They all live in the same small long-time community (unlike me, who ended up in a suburb some distance away from them). When one of the brothers turned 50 a few years ago, I made up huge signs that said "XXXX is turning 50! Stop in and get your free xxxxx."

I posted a sign and some helium ballons outside each local business on the main avenue, and left my credit card with the business. People got free candy bars, free 1/2 hour at the gym, a pound of meat from the butcher, a little bottle of gin at the liquor store, etc.

We started off the birthday celebration with fireworks at 12:01pm. Got his whole family out of bed. Man, were they surprised....and they had no idea about the signs until they left for work in the morning.

What a blast! The best birthday ever!

You can search "postage stamp" quilts on this site. Some really awesome photos! Yes, they're 1.5" squares all sewn together. There's one photo on here of a quilt like this done in a bargello pattern that's to die for.
