discouraged with your quilt's flaws, remember this

I read this advice this morning,
"When I'd (granddaughter) get discouraged because the points and edges weren't matching up exactly right, she'd (grandmother) dismiss the problem with a wave of her hand saying, 'You'll never notice it on the back of a galloping horse.'"
Isn't that the greatest way for us to look at our flaws and the flaws of others. No quilt police at that grandmother's house.

Mamma's version was, "Oh, a man going by on horseback won't notice!!"
I grew up with this, and to this day am a very "global" person... I rarely sweat the details... my dearest quilting friend is at the opposite end of the spectrum, a true perfectionist. She's very sweet, but wants all the points, seams, stitches, etc. to be exactly in place... When she's concerned about something, I'll pick up the quilt and wrap it around me and move around a bit, asking... "Ok... NOW do you see it? How does it look!" Of course, one can't see the "mistakes" when the quilt is being loved and used by the "quiltee"... We always get a laugh out of this...
One more note... her quilts are always so beautiful!!

That's a litmus test in my group of quilting friends! Here's a funny story...
My friend Patty made a huge, gorgeous pineapple quilt. She started quilting it and had a moment of doubt about the pattern. She asked her husband if she should rip out part of the quilting. He held his hands up like he was holding reins, "galloped" past the quilt frame, and said "Nope! Looks great, honey!"
We all howled when she told us about it!
