just curious what others have done for the setting blocks? Scrappy? All one fabric? Just brainstorming... ;)

Maybe search here for scrappy quilts...
Or Google "images" in a google search, and you will find hundreds if not thousands of images :D:D:D

I like to put a background fabric that is the same, with all the scraps to tie it in together. Check out Threadhead.com.
That one looks like it is on point, but it is not.

I would go with a neutral background to have some cohesive element to the quilt.

both-
depends on the quilt
one scrappy quilt had a background-setting triangles all one fabric- another had a totally scrappy background- including settings...
lay out a couple samples- see what you like

I didn't see any there. Can you give a different link?

I just had to decide what to do with big totally scrappy Carolina Lily blocks. I used color. The alternating blocks were a rose batik. It gives a place for the eye to rest and for some quilting design.

Anything else would just read as too busy.

I also had 30 totally scrappy Ohio Star Blocks with 4-5 fabrics each. Very vintage looking. So I found an old purply calico for the big sashing and a greeny tone old fabric for the cornerstones. Keeping them the same thruout made the blocks just pop. The whole thing looks vintage. Fun to stitch.

Ok, since this is a scrappy quilt and I'm trying to avoid buying more fabric right now, I'm thinking of using some of the muslin I've already got on hand. Possibly tea-dying it? Is there any reason I shouldn't use muslin for 8-inch setting blocks? Also, any thoughts on quilting it?
