I just had to decide what to do with big totally scrappy Carolina Lily blocks. I used color. The alternating blocks were a rose batik. It gives a place for the eye to rest and for some quilting design.

Anything else would just read as too busy.

I also had 30 totally scrappy Ohio Star Blocks with 4-5 fabrics each. Very vintage looking. So I found an old purply calico for the big sashing and a greeny tone old fabric for the cornerstones. Keeping them the same thruout made the blocks just pop. The whole thing looks vintage. Fun to stitch.
