Yahoo!! I just finished the quilting on the Twisted Palms landscape!! Now ... the binding.

I have a question as to how to proceed.

My border is pieced and left a zig zag edge (see pic below). I laid the quilt on my cutting table to cut the excess border edges, batting, and backing off. I had two rulers placed in a corner and I noticed it's out of square. Should I block it before I cut off any excess and add the binding? Or wait until I bind it.

Also, with regard to the binding ... should I attach the front of the front of the binding BEFORE or after I trim the excess?

In a perfect world I would like the binding to be 1/4" from the outer tips of the twined pieces in the border, and I'd like it to be square :)

Outer edge of pieced border. I need to cut the excess tips off. But when?

With this kind of an edge, I usually quickly run through the machine to baste the edge in place then trim. If you want a 1/4" showing past the points, then trim them 1/2" beyond them. If you want them the same as the inside points, then trim 1/4" from the points, all before you attach the binding. How far off are you when squaring up?

BTW...really like the border!

Actually ... not much. I just checked it again I think it's going to be OK as far as square goes.

You could block it before cutting any off, if it too far off to square properly. If it is just off a little, I would trim the edges straight, sew the binding on the front and hand sew it to the back. I've tried sewing the binding on, then trimming but I just ended up with a wiggly edge.
