I'm posting pictures (I hope) of machines I purchased recently. Can anyone give me information on model, year,value and usefulness of these machines. I would love to learn to do FMQ. Will any of these be helpful, if so which will be the best?

The Singer is a Model 127, serial number allocated January 27 1925, made at Elizabethport factory, Elizabeth, New Jersey. The decals are gorgeous.

"The Gold Medal Company manufactured machines for Johnson Clark & Co., the predecessor to the New Home Company of Orange, Mass. Previously the company grew out of partnerships of Thomas H White/William L Grout, then White/Barker, then Clark/Barker. "

I have the Singer Sphinx machine (at least one that looks like that), it's a treadle though. I think mine is 1906 or 1912 (something like that).Yours is in better shape than mine. Nice machines. That Kenmore looks heavy duty.

I have the manual for the Kenmore, but not the machine. The machine was in very bad condition and had to be recycled. I did save some of the parts though.

Do you know how to thread your Gold Medal Treadle machine? I have a machine with the same kind of contraption on the top of the arm and I have no book for the sewing machine. I have no clue how to thread my machine. I'm hoping you know how and can help me out.

To answer your last question.
No I would not buy a vintage machine for the purpose of doing free motion quilting. You certainly can do it however.
Tredle, to me are useless for FMQ as you can't get a consistent speed. the older electric ones work if the electrial system can be controlled with the foot pedle.
Buy a good used modern machine for this purpose. You will be able to get both walking foot and fit with darning foot for FMQ.
I don't believe you will be happy trying to FMQ on any of these.
