I'm posting pictures (I hope) of machines I purchased recently. Can anyone give me information on model, year, value and usefulness of these machines. I would love to learn to do FMQ. Will any of these be helpful, if so which will be the best?

Here's what Needlebar has to say about the Gold Medal machine:
"The Gold Medal Company manufactured machines for Johnson Clark & Co., the predecessor to the New Home Company of Orange, Mass. Previously the company grew out of partnerships of Thomas H White/William L Grout, then White/Barker, then Clark/Barker. "
Nice finds! I LOVE that cabinet!!

I have the Singer Sphinx machine (at least one that looks like that), it's a treadle though. I think mine is 1906 or 1912 (something like that).Yours is in better shape than mine. Nice machines. That Kenmore looks heavy duty.

Do you know how to thread your Gold Medal Treadle machine? I have a machine with the same kind of contraption on the top of the arm and I have no book for the sewing machine. I have no clue how to thread my machine. I'm hoping you know how and can help me out.

To answer your last question.
No I would not buy a vintage machine for the purpose of doing free motion quilting. You certainly can do it however.
Tredle, to me are useless for FMQ as you can't get a consistent speed. the older electric ones work if the electrial system can be controlled with the foot pedle.
Buy a good used modern machine for this purpose. You will be able to get both walking foot and fit with darning foot for FMQ.
I don't believe you will be happy trying to FMQ on any of these.
