Sewing on 1917 White FR Treadle
I got the machine cleaned, oiled and back in the cabinet. I have threaded it (thanks to Bennett and the photo he posted). And I have done my first bit of sewing - just on a scrap piece of quilting cotton.
So far I have not figured out how to wind bobbin without the feed dogs and needle moving also. The Manual says to loosen the thumbscrew on the hand wheel. but when I do that the belt does not move (which drives the bobbin winder) and the feed dogs and needle keep moving. Not a big deal but not what I expected. The belt is going over the top of the bobbin winding wheel.
here is a picture of the bobbin winder threaded up.

Any one have any ideas on how to preserved the manual that came with my machine? I have made a copy of all the pages. The original has several pages that are no longer attached and the paper is falling apart. I was just wondering the proper way to preserve antique paper.

look at the back handwheel where it connects to the machine and at the pulley,,see'll where pieces of that meet each other , very slight gaps oil those,, loosen that thumb screw ,, try to keep the needle bar from moving , then by hand work the handwheel.. you want the hand wheel to rotate and not the needle bar ...
I found on mine, the winder pulley goes on top the belt, when you wind push on that with your thumb,, when it wound, put the belt back over the top, push the winder against the machine
run the belt as loose as you as you can without slipping
