Default Dressmaker Sewing Machine-Is it worth it? Need your opinion

Found an exceptional looking Dressmaker at the Restore today. It sewed a straight stitch smoothly. Has other design features across the top of it, but couldn't figure that part out. It might be from the 50's or 60's. They want $60 dollars for it. Do I take the chance on it and buy it u think? Like I said-exceptional! Sorry-no pix. Either way, I don't think it will be there long.

I've seen many Dressmakers for sale. Really, it depends on how much you want it. Personally, I wouldn't pay that amount, but they always appear in my life for much less than that. Only you can gauge what you'll pay.

Thanks for your opinion. You confirmed what I was thinking.

I wouldn't pay that much for it either, unless maybe it had all the cams with it. I found one for $25.00 but no cams.

Will they negotiate? If it is "exceptional" with all the cams/attachments, might be worth a little more.

I also bought one from Restore for $25. It lasted about 2 weeks.

I never pay that much for a older machine. Mostly because if it needs any repair at all it is expensive unless you can do it your self.

I"ve gotten spoiled by cheap machines. But if that Dressmaker was complete and worked properly I wouldn't worry too much about the price.
Fixing them can be expensive as grandmahoney said, but so is fixing a modern plastic wonder machine. Ever had to replace a computer panel in one? Eeeekkkkk!!!!

I'd try to negotiate it down, but in the end .... I'd probably buy it. Remember, they don't make good machines any more.

Worth every cent. I bought one in the 70;s and it is just as good as new . I have made many slipcovers, and have
done lots of alterations. Mine has built in stitches. My sewing machine repair and cleaner man tells me it is a VERY
GOOD AND DEPENDABLE machine.
