Default it works, it works :)

HI all,
Thanks again for helping me figure out which machine I was lucky enough to stumble across (singer 15-91). I got it back from my uncle and he confirmed it had barely been used. My grandma tested it out and gave me a tutorial on how to use it properly. Remember, my 6[SUP]th[/SUP] grade home ec teacher had scared me away from using a machine! For a really long time. It is not a quilt, but I have seen on Pinterest taking old tank tops or shirts and turning them into bags. So, this past weekend while I got used to my new to me machine, I made several bags from tank tops and shirts I had gotten from the dollar bin at a thrift store. I even managed a pocket in one. Simple, I know… but to me it was a pretty big deal! LOL. I picked up some spiderman squares that I am planning on making into a little quilt for my little man- but for now- the bags are really fun to make! sorry for the small picture...

my favorite one, I think... it changes. LOL (please forgive the dirty high chair tray...oops.)

:-) I see the pictures show up here bigger than they did on my screen before posting. LOL. But yes, I am very excited. I have also been checking out refashioning blogs, to see what else I can do with items that i might like the pattern/color of, but are too big or too much of a pattern, etc. My husband is happy because I'm excited for something, instead of my usual laid back self.

Congrats! You're hooked now. Don't forget to cruise down the housewares and furniture aisles at your local thrifts. You'll find you don't have nearly enough machines. Check the linen sections also. There's almost always some decent fabrics you can use there too.
Very nice job on the bags.

Thanks all. The bags are really so, so easy to do. I never really used my Pinterest until recently- now it’s my best friend for ideas. LOL.

I do need to get a zipper foot and possible a zig zag- if this machine will zig zag. I think so with the right foot. My grandma wasn’t so sure.

But I am so very excited. And I am not an easily excitable person.

I also have a bag of scraps I got from ebay with the idea to make a quilt or maybe a patchwork bag out of it. Or possibly both—it was a 10 pound box of scraps. LOL. Pretty colors and designs.

Here is a link to another thread that had so much helpful info as far as having the older iron lady sewing machines do EVERYTHING. You just need the right attachments.

Congratulations on learning to use your "new" machine. Keep working, learning, and posting to show what you are doing.
