Default Need help with my Gammill longarm

I have a Gammill Vision 18. Recently have had problems at random places with guiding the machine head correctly. It feels the same as driving a vehicle down a muddy road and getting stuck in the ruts. No matter how I try it just goes where 'IT' wants for an inch or three. I called the Gammill 800# and talked to a tech. He wasn't any help & didn't really seem to understand. His recommendation was check my poles...which I already had done and they were not impeding the movement of the machine head in any way. I tried releveling the frame but think I made it worse....help....any suggestions???????

Your frame could be out of level and you may have also messed up the spacing between the front and rear rails when attempting to level the machine. Take a rigid tape measure (like carpenter's use) and measure the distance between your rails every inch or less. Every measurement should be the same in every place. If it is incorrect you will need help to make your frame level as it is darn near impossible for one person to do it, especially when the machine head is on the frame. You will need to contact gammel to see if they make any kind of spacing bars to install on your frame to make the distance between front rail and rear rail uniform through the whole rack. The problem you are describing is definitely rack related, not machine head related. If you bought from a local dealer, now would be the time to contact them and maybe they can have someone come out fix your rack.

Oh my gosh...thank you so much. This makes so much sense! My nearest dealer is several hundred miles away, so it is an expensive house call. :-) I live in the west Texas area. You have jogged by memory and I now remember another longarmer nearby that had this problem and knows how to fix it. Thanks for responding so quickly, as I have many tops that are "waiting" to be finished. thnx again 'ff'! your the best!!!!!!

When my rails went wonky I did get additional spacer bars (now standard with the frame) and that solved my problem, which was that the carriage would start to slip off the rails. For your problem I would also check to see if there is any thread wrapped around the carriage wheels.
