Default Oiling your sewing machine

Several people on the Board have said that they oil their machines when they clean them. The manual for my 40+ year old Singer Diana shows me exactly where to put the oil, but the manual for my new Janome 8900 says nothing about oiling. Do the new machines not need this, or am I missing something?

They don't make Janomes so the consumer can get inside to oil. But they do need oil -- you just have to take it to your Janome dealer to have them do it.

But, you can get inside the bobbin area and clean. Remove the needle plate and take a picture of how the bobbin case is sitting. Remove the bobbin case and get all of the lint and needle fragments out. Put a drop of oil in the center hole and in the ring just around the center hole. You might be able to put a drop of oil on the feed dog joints, if you know where to look. Then put it back together.

You can also oil the take-up area, but you may have to do it through the slot in the front, if the end cap doesn't come off.

The only spot I am supposed to oil on my newer Bernina is, a drop of oil on the bobbin hook/race.

Thank you for the info, I will try a drop in the bobbin hole as I do clean that area when I change the bobbin. Think I may have to bite the bullet and take it in to the dealer cause it's making a sort of squeaking noise every once in a while.
