Default The Domestic chainstitch Looper

I took some more pictures of the new looper I just got.

Needlebar has a picture showing three different loopers, two with the turn knob like my older one. However mine is not quite the same as either of those two, though it hooks in the same.

This is my oldest Domestic. I bought this machine, then learned about the chainstitch adaptor and discovered this machine was too old -before the adaptor came out. It does not have a hole in the shuttle carrier.

I did find a looper and then set looking for a shuttle carrier, and when I finally got one, found out it's a newer style and my older looper would not fit.

So I kept looking and finally ended up with a New Domestic machine -that takes the looper I had.

The Domestic attachment set I just bought came with a looper - the newest style. And it fits in the carrier I bought.

The manual states taht you need a needle plate with a scooped out needle hole on the bottom side. The machine comes with a plate like this already on it. The manual states to make sure if you get a replacement - that it also looks like this on the underside.

One other way to help tell if a machine would take the looper - it has this hole in the throat plate.

Which accepts the leg of the reverse hemmer that works with chainstitching.

I was looking for something else, and found more Domestic parts - including a second looper like the older style, and the carrier that goes with it. I kind of thought I already had two of them . . . I will be so glad when my Machine Shed is ready and I can get organized and get my "extras" sent down the road!

Hi,

I recently picked up an old Domestic Fiddlebed head with some chainstitch attachments. I have the looper and 2 different needle plates. Not sure which plate is correct. I read the New Domestic manual posted on Victorian Sweatshop and still can't figure it out. Any help appreciated.

Thanks
Jon

the left plate is a braider plate, nothing to do with chain stitching. I think I have 3 of these that are for different widths of braid.

The other plate looks like it will work for chain stitch. Look at the needle hole, notice it's larger and seems a bit conical and wider on the back side. The regular stitch plate would look like this one, but have a hole more the diameter of the other one.

Sewbeadit - I had problems with photobucket a while ago and ended up moving my photos, so all the old links got broken.

I'll repost this over on VSS
