I'd like to know the names of these types of fabrics.

This beige fabric has a very low pile. It's obviously a synthetic. It's not very stretchy. The selvedge looked very much like the rest of the fabric but had a series of small pin sized holes running along it.

The green has an interesting open weave on the back, which is on the left side of this picture. You can see the selvedge has a white thread running through it, on the bottom of the picture. It's another low pile. It has a little more stretch but nothing like minky. It actually reminds me of felt.

Hard to tell from a pic. The beige one looks like it might be brushed nylon, like they used to make pj's out of. The green one could be wool. Wool will dissolve in bleach. Cut a small piece off and soak in pure bleach. If it dissolves, it's wool.

Thanks, I'll go try the green one right now. I wish one of you guys lived close and could ID in person. I'm sure a photo id is tricky.

Oh, the beige feels a little heavier than a jammy material. Perhaps a bathrobe weight since we are using sleeping clothes as measurements.

I have a small piece of the green one completely submerged in pure bleach. How long should it take to dissolve? And do you mean, completely and totally disappear? Thanks again!

Never mind.....I googled the answer. Should have done that in the first place. Apparently I must wait 8 hours for the answer. I will also try the burn test. Thanks dd for suggesting it may be wool, I had not even thought of that.

My 4H girls used to do that with fabric that was given to them. They did Make it With Wool and it had to be 100% wool. They did say they left it overnight. I think when it burns it should be white ash but wouldn't swear to that.

The beige looks like a couch I used to have and it was covered in chenille (n oh t like the bedspread material).

The green looks like baize which is the fabric used to cover snooker/pool tables, the beige like the terry/velour used in bathrobes dressing gowns.

The beige looks like a microfleece to me. The green looks like flannel.

Why don't you take it into your local fabric store or quilt guild? In my experience, there's usually someone knowledgeable about fabrics in both locations.
