Default Authentic or a remake?

Ive been seeing this little guy on our local Craigslist for a few weeks... but to me it looks too perfect/new to be the old one. Plus, these were mint green, right? Not aqua... What do you think? Has this model been remanufactured lately?

It's not a repro but if it's what I think it is(285) the price is way too high.

I think you're right on the model Cari. They're descended from the 99 and 185 machines but had a major redesign underneath.
One of these was just discussed recently though I don't remember which thread.

I've seen it described as the beginning of the end for Singer. Very noisy and contains several plastic parts that really shouldn't be plastic (e.g. foot lift lever)

There's a review at http://www.briansews.com/2010/06/bad-seed.html

Thanks... I did find the Briansews review and have decided it's not a good one to get. I really don't like that hook driver mechanism underneath. Thank you everyone for your input.

I actually recognize that photo from a sewer's blog - I wouldn't trust that this is an actual photo of the machine being listed.

I hate it when people do that...

The 99 and 185 are good machines the 285 is not so good underneath. It has funky gears - seems kind of fragile to me. I parted out the one I had - it also had some broken plastic. The case was fine though.

The case is the one thing worth saving if it's in good shape.
