Anyone from Bangor, Maine? Husband has a meeting first of October, so we thought we would RV up the last week of September. Looking for suggestions on where to camp and also any quilt shops as well as any other areas of interest.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!! I know it will be turning cold up that way but I may never get the chance to see Maine any other way..lol

When I took early retirement about 9 years ago, our first extended RV trip was to that area of the northeast in late September. We stayed in Bangor for about 5 days, our longest stay on that trip. We stayed at the Pumpkin Patch RV park. It was very nice and there was a restaurant near enough to walk to. We ate a lot of haddock there. I was not into quilting at that time so no info on that. Probably the highlight was our visit to Acadia National Park. It is just a short drive from Bangor and a beautiful area. It takes more that one day to explore for sure. One thing I wish that I had done but did not, was to drive past Stephen King's home. Who knows if the RV park is still open by now or the restaurant. One thing you might want to do is find your RV parks ahead of time just to make sure they are still open. Some of them close early in the fall. Have fun!

I've heard that the Cotton Cupboard Quilt Shop in Bangor is a nice one with friendly people but have not been there myself yet. If you do go to Mt. Desert Island (where Acadia is), you will travel through Ellsworth. There is a Marden's in Ellsworth - kind of like a Maine Big Lots with lots of stuff. You can get great fabric there for only 3.99-4.99 a yard and other crafty stuff too. There is also a great yarn shop (and other crafts) called Shirley's. Very friendly there. In Bar Harbor, there is a quilt shop named Fabricate. Oh, and after Ellsworth, you will drive through Trenton where there is another quilt shop called Sewing by the Sea.
If you go to Acadia, make sure to hit Sand Beach and Thunder Hole. Martha Stewart also has a summer home on the island but we haven't bumped into her yet.
Can you tell that my Mom came from that area? We are planning a trip there just after Columbus Day.

My best friend lives in a town by bangor, not really quilt store but she says a lot of quilters go to Martens fabric very cheap!!

I'm jealous - I have always wanted to go to Maine. Maybe someday I will get there. Hope you have a wonderful trip!

Was there 53 years ago. They had a huge statue of Paul Bunion. Dad wanted a picture of me and our dog at base. He took one look and started growling and barking and refused to get any closer. I carried him up to base and away from statue so he couldn't see and put him down for the picture.
You should be able, Have lots of relatives in Maine. So beautiful up there Spring, summer and fall. I don't do snow any more. Enjoy the trip.

Shouldn't be snow when you are there although there was a big storm on Halloween weekend a few years back. Ruined trick or treat but melted pretty fast.

I was just there to celebrate DH's birthday in May. We traveled north and then through Canada. I saw billions of pine trees, more pine trees than I ever want to see again. We went all over the city and saw Stephen King's home. We drove to the coast and saw beautiful homes, but no quilt stores anywhere. Have a good time, we did.
