Default Well or Good?

I tend to have to stop and think about when to use the word well or good when talking and usually don't have time to think anyway. I know well is an adverb and good is an adjective, the linking verbs get involved and .....I feel like I messed up after the fact. I decided to substitute the word GREAT for everything good or well and lose those two words. LOL

Guess I'm the odd ball because I'm fine with either word. I think that how a person talks is usually determined by what part of the country they grew up in when they were young.

Well can be an adverb (she types well) but also an adjective (I feel well). Good is always an adjective. So don't say She quilts good.

Great is a "great" compromise!!

To add to the confusion, "good" can also be used as a noun: He went about the world doing good (meaning that he did good works of the charitable or humanitarian kind). Isn't it fun to play with language?
