Yum! I used to make those. Not sure what happened to my recipe. Since my daughters never wanted to bake I quit doing it. Growing up my sisters and I loved to spend a Saturday or Sunday baking cookies. We used to have parties and made our own pizzas too. We had fun putting all the different ingredients on them. My DD's thought I was crazy when I suggested doing it when they were in school.

This recipe is the one I loved but sadly it's been banned in my family due to a guaranteed 5# weight gain.

Know what you mean...holiday/fall/winter can be killer for excessive baking.

Looks like a quick and easy recipe. Do you think I can use melted coconut oil in place of the veggie oil, I do not use veggie oil. Want to make some for a church auction.

Here's my recipe for MOLASSES SUGAR COOKIES
3/4 cup shortening 2 teaspoons baking soda
1 cup sugar 1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ginger 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1 egg 1/4 cup molasses
1/2 teaspoon salt 2 cups flour

Cream together shortening and sugar. Add molasses and egg. Beat well.
Mix together flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and salt. Add to first mixture.
Chill overnight.
Form 3/4 inch balls and roll in granulated sugar.
Place on greased cookie sheet 2" apart. Bake at 350 degrees 8-15 minutes until lightly browned.
Remove from pan at once.
