Default Queen sized Pick up Sticks Quilt

This was the first quilt effort by the sister of a friend. I was blown away by the precision of the blocks. That said, she has requested straight line quilting at half inch intervals. I talked her out of that for a couple of reasons. First, I thought the density of the quilting over her choice of a very heavy punched batting would had resulted in corrugated "cardboard". Second, I think she either forgot or didn't think to standardize all her block sizes. This resulted in shirring in both directions of the sashing in different spots.
By reducing the amount of horizontal quilting and using an irregular spacing pattern, I was able to disguise the fact there was nothing "straight" about her sashing. But all in all..what a marvelous first quilt. I'll leave it to her sister who is the go between inform her most LAs would have refused the job and to educate her re trimming her blocks to a standard size. LOL

I saw a quilt called "red pick up sticks" quite some time ago and thought it was so great. This one is also and by a new quilter even. Wow! Thanks for the link to the pattern also.

I loved playing Pick up Sticks with my family when we were young. This is the first time I've seen it in a quilt. Very cool and modern. Your quilting succeeded in making the finished product look straight and true to me.
