Default crazy question

Hello.... I know this may be a crazy question, but sometimes I can be crazy ha ha

I am going to make my dad a throw quilt for Christmas. He was born in Germany on 1934. I think it would be nice if I could find a german quilt pattern.

I have been looking on the internet and I have not been able to find anything

Does anyone here know of any german quilt patterns?

I just did a search of Quilt Shops in Germany...some have websites and/or FB presence. Maybe you could contact one of them via the internet and get an answer to you search. Best of luck!

Also look under Austrian or Prussia. My Grandfather immigrated here after WWI. I have pictures of him with a quilt on his lap but there was nothing distinguishing about the quilt that I could make out. It looked more like a Prussian flag in design. The photo of course is in B&W.

I did a google search for "antique german quilts"...this should give you a place to start

https://www.google.com/search?q=anti...w=1280&bih=566

another thought...the Pennsylvania Dutch are known for their quilts, they did come from Germany, so that could be another avenue to research.

I do not come from a family of quilters but I do come from a long line of mostly strong German and Czech women with just enough of the Irish to make me a bit fey... Woven wool blankets and duvet covers over goose down comforters were the home choices, sometimes with embroidery.

Turns out that among other things I'm allergic to down, apparently I'm drawn to quilting for health reasons!

Does he like Nutcrackers? They originated in Germany and there are many patterns on Pinterest. You only need two or three patterns and then you switch them up with different colors.

Maybe the German flag could be used or at least the colors of the German flag.
