Default Old blocks to be out into a quilt

I have some lovely Sunbonnet Sue blocks that my grandmother appliquéd on muslin. The appliqué itself is turned edge with buttonhole, and it looks in very good shape. However I am a bit worried about the stability of the muslin which is quite thin. Should I line the blocks with a layer of heavier muslin before putting the blocks together or will they stand up to some use without it? I will be asking them with cornerstones, using a soft batting of wool or cotton, then machine quilting with either radiating lines or a cross hatch with about a 2” spacing.

Jamie Walen from Quilter’s Apothecary does put a liner under old tops when he machine quilts them.

Thanks for that idea Tartan. That would be easier than lining each block separately. Ummm. I will think about that,

I would definitely use a layer of pellem on the back of the block to stabilize it. and back it with a piece of Muslin. I sure would love to see this quilt when it is finished!

I think it would be good to put some sort of stabilizer under the blocks. Whether it be another square of muslin or some other light fabric. That will be such a treasure quilt knowing that your grandmother started these blocks and you can finish them
