Great block! I've looked at that one several times but never took the time to create one of my own. Thanks for the push here. It'll look great with the woven puzzle that we made last week.

I like the block Ruth. I think it will be fun. I will try changing the sizes too to see what results pop out.
Thanks, Mardi

Let us know, I would like to make up a quilt in this pattern, but like to work in smaller blocks. I didn't think I would ever be able to say that. I do have a problem figuring the size of the pieces when changing the size of a block. could use your advice :D

Ruth, This is the problem I ran into when trying to put my redwork into a setting. I just couldn't get the block sizes right. Several months later and when working on another project, my sister, Marcella, and I finally figured it all out. You have to work with the finished sizes. Compute all the block pieces based on the finished size and then add the seam allowance back in. Works a charm. What a relief!

If you wanted a 8" block you would cut strips 2.5". Since this is basically a four x four, patch divided desired size by four then add seam allowance to each strip. I have a couple old book which really help me when I can't think one is "Taking the Math Out of Patchwork Quilting" and Mary Ellen Hopkins "It's OK to Sit on My Quilt" both out of print but great books for figuring strip size and settings.
