I was just viewing Connecting Theads' website and saw some really nice coordinated fabrics I would like for the future. It is on sale for $2.96 a yard (great deal, eh?), but I don't have anything in particular in mind for it right now. How much fabric do you buy if you are just building up your stash or just because you like it? I was thinking about a half yard of each, but maybe a fq would be enough. It's hard to know when I have no specific use for it right now.

There are about 6 different prints that I think coordinate nicely. Also, should I buy a larger piece to have for a backing for whatever I decide to make? Again, I don't know what I would do with it, but the price is right and I like it. Is that a good enough reason to buy it?

When I don't know what I am going to do with it, which is very often the case, I buy at least two yards and usually three. I'm no help to you at all if you're thinking a FQ is enough.

Your better to get more than not enough and for that price you can't beat it.

Just bought a bunch from their clearance section and I buy enough of each in case I'm going to use them as backings.

I don't usually buy fat quarters because too many times I decide to do something that requires the full width of the fabric. I usually get at least 1 yard, more likely 2 or 3. If it is one that could make a good backing I might get 4 or 5. I have been so tempted by their sale, but I am not purchasing anything right now till I recover from the cost of the dog's ACL surgery. I am on a "spending diet." Buy some in "my memory".

That's what I was gonna suggest. I think I know which ones you are talking about. I remember thinking if I only had the money.

Same here. At that price I'd rather have a little extra than run short. Or decide which you'd like for borders and backing and get extra of that, then at least a yard of each of the others.

you might use caution...i just got an order of coordinated fabrics from them that cost 2.96 a yd. for the first time, i am sooo disappointed. it is cheap and thin...almost gauzy (is that a word?). i am using it for pot holders and coasters. afraid to include any of it in a quilt. just fyi. let me know if you do order. thanks, johnnye
