Getting back to a baby quilt from last winter....the cobblestone blocks are all made, but they did not end up the same size. Some are off by 1/4". I've just started Harriet Hargreave's Quilter's Academy: Freshman book, so I can guess where I've gone wrong.

Short of starting all over, what are my options?
*square them all up to smallest size of block (will this throw the pattern off?)
*re-make all the ones that are too small (I may have enough fabric)
* any other suggestions?

I would use Sharon Schambers method of spray starch and blocking the small ones. Since you are only talking about a 1/4" or less, this should work well for you :D:D:D

If all of the blocks are made it would depends on the use of the quilt. I know that sounds bad, but if I were selling it--I would remake the blocks that are too small. If it is a gift, I would square them up. If it is the block I found on-line I don't think it will show. Some fancy quilting can also hide a lot of flaws.

I think I would get them all to a uniform size and get it completed so you can move on to your next challenge:)

I will usually square mine up to the smallest sized block then if that makes the quilt smaller than I want, I will add another border(s) to get the quilt to the size I wanted.

Okay, I've wet them all, stretched and pinned them on a board, and am waiting for them to dry. Once they dry, do I spray starch them to stay the correct size?

.....before you finish it and make the corrections go back and look to see where the "error" occured. Was it in cutting, sewing, etc. Look especially at your starts and endings on the pieces. Make sure you know what happened so it won't happen again.

Thanks for the advice. I'm sure it's a combination of sloppy cutting, inaccurate 1/4 inch seam allowance, improper pressing without starch!!! Is that enough?!!! :lol:

I'm learning a lot with the Quilter's Academy course. The next time around with a similar block, I'm sure I won't have the same problems.

I just really wanted to get this quilt top finished so that I have a good selection of quilt tops done when I take a break from the course to do some intense machine quilting lessons.
