Hi all - this is my first time posting a tut, but someone asked me to try on this block. Here goes.
The finished block look complicated with all those diagonal seams and stuff. I thought to myself - How can I break this down?

This is the finished block.

When you look at it, the block is made up of two sashed rectangles cut on the diagonal and resewn

For the block as pictured, cut each center to measure 6 1/2 inches

Cut two strips of one color that measure 6 1/2 inches and sew them to the top and bottom of your square. Then press the seams open

Press so the seam allowances are on the sashing

I like to over cut and trim down

next sew a 2 inch block in the contrast sashing color to an 8 inch x 2 inch strip. Press it open and square up

I over cut the width so I can trim to the exact width. It just comes out neater Press the seam allowance towards the cornerstone

Sew these to the sides of your block. Make sure that the corner stones are on the opposite sides

The cornerstones are on the opposite sides of each block

Match up the seam lines so you have good corners

Press open and square up the block.

Make a second block using the opposite colorway for the sashing.

Now cut each block on the diagonal ONCE, using the corners that do not have cornerstones

You need to make block pairs, but for a scrappy look, when you join the triangles together, use 4 different block parts, two with one sashing combination and two with the other combination.

You then sew the blocks together. Again be careful about the sashing combinations. If you turn it one way - you can get the sashing lines to be sequential. I turned them so each block will alternate

I have all my blocks done - but not sewn together yet.. It says a lot for my stash that I found 21 different reds in my closet
