Here is another Rose for the Baltimore Album BOM

Even if your can't needle turn applique, you can do this.

There is a pdf file to download for the petal and center.

showing overlap

Gather all 5 petals, and pull into a tight circle and secure.

Take a running gathering stitch, 1/4" along straight edge, overlap petals by 1/2".

Tightly secured with tack stitch and knotted. Secure to background fabric where you want to place rose.

Flip back one petal to create a starting point, and begin to turn under the petal fabric 1/4".

Unlike traditional needle turn, you do not reenter the fabric where you needle came out. Instead, reenter the fabric slightly behind where your needle came out, and exit the fabric slightly in front. This will create a pucker in the petal fabric when you pull the thread through.

See the pucker start to take place.

A few stitches have been taken and the edge is very puffy.

When you get to the next petal, turn the edge that comes out from the center under 1/4" and tack it down, starting at the center and work to the outer edge.

Tacking the edge from the center out.

When you get back to the outside edge of the petal, resume the puffy tacking.

Continue around the entire rose until all 5 petals have been tacked down. See how sloppy and puffy.

Trace center and take a running stitch around the edge.

Pull the stitches to gather the circle

Stuff the circle with batting

Pull the circle closed, but leave uneven edges.

Attach circle to center of rose, again using the sloppy applique method. You want the center to also puff.

Finished sloppy rose

Side view of rose, center is high and puffy.

Here is the pattern and written instructions in a pdf file for download

Great everyone, it's really fun to do. The sloppier you are in the needleturn, the better the rose looks.
