We are four months into our fabric moratorium BUT anyone can join at any time :) The official end of the moratorium is 1 November 2011.

Here’s a quick summary of the guidelines/rules:
* no fabric purchases to start a new quilt top (till 1 November 2011)

“Allowed” purchases include any item required to finish an existing project (either WIP or UFO), including but not limited to:
* batting
* backing or binding fabric
* fabric (if nothing in your stash will work)
* thread or notions
* fabric purchased on a plan prior to 1 December 2010 (e.g. block of the month)

So why are we doing this – the reasons are as varied as there are people involved. Some of those reasons include:
• de-stashing
• focus on finishing WIPs
• financial constraints

Want to bend the guidelines/rules a little? Sure – go for it. Some have chosen to:
• commit for a shorter period of time
• buy fabric if a really good sale comes along
• setting a budget for how much they will spend each month
• use 1 fabric from their stash each month
• purchase new fabric for volunteer projects

Cheers

I had a temporary relapse last Saturday. A bolt of red batik with Chrysanthemums called my name and a had a coupon in my hot little hand. Less than 2 yards did come home with me. That's been my only 'unnecessary purchase'. It's been intesresting.

I made 2 purchases. They fell into the "really good sale" category.

One was the main color for a Jane Stickle quilt (aka Dear Jane). I bought 10 yards of batik. I hope that is enough. All the other bits had been purchased previously (and on sale too).

The other purchase was a bit extravagant. Only because I didn't have a dedicated WIP to assign it to. I bought 2 jelly rolls - they had 26 strips per roll (not the usual - that's why I bought 2). The after sale cost worked out to be about 1/8th(!) of the retail price. Woohooo!

Lots of other good quilt fabric sales have come and gone. Oh I've been sooooo tempted yet I've remained strong :)

Slightly off topic, I bought 10 sewing patterns last week from Butterick, McCalls and Vogue. Butterick and McCalls were on sale for $1.88 each. The 1 Vogue pattern I bought was $3.88. Couldn't go past that sale.

I'm still hand quilting my log cabin quilt. I've been doing a little here and there, about 5 hours a week. It should take me about 1 - 2 years to finish.

I think I may have to admit defeat! I bought three "sets" of fabric for QFK quilts. I didn't have any really bright novelty prints and I wanted to do bright. I also bought a yard of motorcycle fabric to make a QFK for an older boy. But, for me, I've been very good. And I'm back on the wagon! :-D :-D

I'm completely out of it. I just received two orders of fabric and I'm expecting another. Some of it was for a baby quilt I'm doing for my new granddaughter. Had to get new fabric for that. The other was for notions on sale at Connecting Threads and I just had to get a couple of jelly rolls as well. I also sneaked in a few stash builders with the order for my granddaughter as well as a remnant bundle. See, I'm completely out of it. Hope others are doing better.

I just went to a craft fair and almost put on blinders while walking through the quilting booths. (I was there to look at a cutting system) Honestly, I managed to walk out without buying a single piece of fabric. That's not to say I didn't shop.

I had decided to use my stash to make quilts. I am lucky to have my mom! She is feeding my fabric addiction. :-) I have done good, have only bought thread and used gift certs to get some fabric earlier this year.

I fell very badly today when I ordered the new red, white and blue patriotic fabric from Connecting Threads. I was always missing the good fabric, so I just had to order. Shame on me.

I'm not sure where I am. I ordered 2 fabrics from Connecting Threads for my bug jar quilt. Needed shelf fabric for the bookcase. I couldn't decide which I wanted so got 3 yds of each. It was all on sale for $2.96 per yd. Since I was putting in an order I got lots of thread to get it up to $50 for free shipping.
I won 5 yds. (1/2 yd. cuts of a whole new collection) at our local retreat. Haven't decided what to do with it yet.
So, long story short, I guess I'm still kind of on track.
