I spent years searching for orange fabrics when it was almost impossible to find them. Orange, not peach, not coral. Finally I collected enough to make a quilt I named "I Like Orange". The background is tone-on-tone black and each block has a dresden plate with different orange fabrics -- some have accents of other colors, some are Halloween fabrics. I decided a queen-size quilt would be too much so still have blocks left for another project but I'm very happy with it. Orange is my favorite color and now, of course, you can buy tons of it anywhere.
If you're nervous about it, just lay whatever orange fabrics you have across your bed and let them stay there for a while. Every now and then take a look at your bed and see how it makes you feel. My opinion - go for it!

I am crazy for orange fabric as anyone in my quilt guild can attest to. I have made a number of them...one as a baby quilt....the father liked fast cars so the border fabric was an orange flame design. I also made a quilt entirely out of 2 inch squares of orange fabric (and I had over 40 different fabrics) that I laid out on fusible interfacing and then sewed together.

I like orange too. One of the earliest quilts I made is orange and green teal. It's a single giant block quilt. A single giant block quilt is where somebody has taken a single block pattern and blown it up to the size of a whole quilt. The pattern is "Seeing Stars." I made the quilt top from cutting to borders in two days. It still isn't quilted though.

Might I suggest you look at batiks? You can definitely get oranges in many tones and shades. Batiks would compliment the drapes and not overshadow them. Oranges and creams would be a softer approach. Kind of like orange sherbert ... yum !!
