I use all those soft books a lot for baby gifts. I just make the pages into smaller squares and single or double border them, (depending on what looks best) and then put a coordinating boarder around everything. I have a Brother embroidery machine so I embroider a little message with the baby's name and birthday on the "dedication" page. I do know how to hand quilt and I love the look, but with the volume I need complete, just don't have time. I use a pretty decorative machine stitch to quilt it. It goes fast and it looks great

Thanks so much for bringing up this topic. When Walmart in our area was getting rid of their fabric dept., I bought several book panels thinking I would use them for Christmas gifts. One of the babies is my grand nephew(he's 5mo.); will probably get tons of toys from other relatives so I think a story quilt will be a perfect for gift. Chris

I have a few in the works. One that just needs a binding is The Night Before Christmas, and I have a sock monkey soft book that I've been planning on making into a toddler bed quilt when we move our daughter to the big girl bed.

I'm making one for my great grandsons (2 1/2 and 5 months) -will post a picture when I get it done. I needed one more block so I used some christmas fabric from a dress I made their mother (my granddaughter) 20 years ago.
Mine is the Night Before Christmas
