When you did your French Seam you removed another 1/2" (3 1/2" total) from each corner which made your box taller.

Aurora, I made 3" deep corners which is why my box turned out taller. Since I am not looking to place wine bottles in there, I wouldn't make it that tall. Right now I am working on boxes made from 10" squares and only making a 1.5" corner which keeps my box stubbier. I have been contemplating making one with a 12 or 14" square and the smaller corners so I can place a mug inside filled with candy or nuts for a gift. And, I also want to play with a tiny box to see if it is more difficult. Anyway, Thank you everyone for your kind words on the French seams. I love removing the bulk from the inside of the fabric box.

I have to sew one up for myself, I made four of them, but gave them all away. Isn't that the way it goes?

Yes, elnan, my hat is off to seaside stitches blogspot for starting this whole fad. I wrote to her and asked her permission to make a tutorial on her boxes with the French Seams. The French Seams were a challenge to myself since I, at the time, had not made French seams in YEARS.

I used your tute and didn't do the French seams, just sewed those corners down and found that it fit nicely over a tissue box. So the first one I made I just tore off the top of the box and left it in there for holding buttons. The next one I made I zigzagged a large circle in the center before I sewed the corners and then put it over a tissue box for the tissues to come out of the hole. My husband loves it and thinks it would be cute quick Christmas gifts for my co-workers. So far I have done 6 of them. I am finally using all those fat quarters I have been saving for a "rainy day". Thanks for the tute!
