You are sewing each piece of fabric to two other pieces. If you could stand the placemat on edge & open it to a cross or an "X" you could see all four sides.

cute idea.... but I need to focus on "practical" stuff like clothes and quilts, furniture finished and cabinets stained ha ha :D... maybe in the future after I finish the other thousand projects....

I made a set of these and worked great. One side is Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter and everyday all in one.

Thanks for the explanation - I needed that! I thought it was two lined ovals (double-faced), then lined up and sewed together down the middle. Hmmm, middle seam might be "ugly" when beginning to start and stop!

Your explanation and the link will help me make lovely Christmas gifts!
