This is a variation of a quilt I saw in Summer 2010 Quick Quilts magazine. The concept can be adapted to any size your creative
brain chooses. I am starting with 4" strips, about 42 " long, prewashed, starched, pressed.

Sew the strips together however you want them

Stitch the bottom to the top to make a tube

Slice the tube into 4" strps/loops.

Now open one seam of each loop, the lst on the 1st, the 2nd on the 2nd, etc.

Hrere's the finished piece. I need 3 more for a nice bed cover.

Open up your strips to see the pattern & sew together!

Thanks so much for the tute! That will make the charity quilts go so much faster.

dotcomdtcm 10-20-2010 07:13 AM

Yes! This is for a teenage girl in a group home. Nothing wrong with choosing a quick design. The fabrics are quite beautiful and it looks terrific.

Great expansion on the tube square idea! Thanks for sharing it!

You can use this tute for cutting out bargello color strips too. All one has to do is very the width of the cut strips after you make the tube.

ann clare 10-20-2010 11:10 AM

Love it. Thanks for sharing.

I love it! You seem to come up with the greatest ideas Thanks so much for sharing!

Lyncat 10-21-2010 06:57 AM

That's so pretty. I went to a wedding in Mt Carmel IL and ended up chatting with some nice women quilters in a church basement who taught me to make this type of quilt. I made a baby quilt of flannel, so much fun and it was quick!

quilter64779 10-21-2010 09:16 AM

I will be trying this one too.

dotcomdtcm 10-21-2010 09:46 AM

I have one "tube" left over. How I do I make this into a bargello? Just slice different widths & shift a little to sew back together?

desertrose 10-21-2010 12:07 PM

Thank you Dotty I love this idea!!!

Jingle 10-21-2010 02:20 PM

Great tute, I'm going to try it in the near future.
Close to the Trip Around The World Quilt, strips arranged a little different.
Thanks for showing us.

very cool

Nightengale grammy 10-22-2010 11:39 AM

This is such a great idea, especially for a newbie like me!
Just the first square would be really great to make for a lap blanket for shut-ins, etc....

Thanks for this idea!

Thanks for the easy-to-read instructions -- what a great idea!

This is PERFECT for my son. He's been complaining that I make quilts for everyone except him. I just couldn't think of something that didn't look "girly," if you know what I mean. And guess what? Red and black are his favorite colors!

For a twin-sized quilt, would you happen to know how much of 8 different fabrics I'd need, given the 4-inch squares in your quilt?

Cuddly Quilter 10-23-2010 02:40 AM

This is fantastic and so quick. Thank you very much for sharing. Cannot wait to create my own.

How good is that, I will give a demonstration of this at our weekly craft group, I am slowly getting the ladies into quilting especially when there are these quick and easy methods and all the squares line up with the tube thankyou. quilting.

Great Tute
