The other day I found some wonderful charm packs that I could not live without. Moda Lumier de noel and Moda solids in white to tan. I purchased 2 packs each and was going to make the d4p, however I was very tired when I made my first 2 I gave up and tried something else. I took two blocks and decided to cut the 4 patches in half corner to corner then I used half of each block and to make a pinwheel. It looked ok but I wanted more. So I decided to do the dp4 patch method and this is what I ended up with!! If you have any questions please PM me and I will answer them on this tutorial. Thank you for watching I have 12 pictures and will try to explain them as best I can!1
Step 1 choose two different 4 patches Cut in half diagonally both ways on both patches what you end up with talk half of the 4 patch and alternate them so you have a pinwheel effect. Sew together each triangle sew each half together Cut on all 4 sides 1 1/4" All sewn together :) |

once you have cut all 4 sides 1 1/4" this is where the dp4 comes in. On the first row take the middle block you have created and turn it 180 degrees. On the second row take the first block and the 3rd block turn 180 degrees. Do the same on the 34d row. You will not touch the corner pieces. Then start on the first row and see next photo
yeah it worked!!! Ok this is what you end up with after cutting all around now turn all you have to do is turn the pieces and sew together! |

I then sewed each row together in strips and then sewed those strips to finish the block

Thanks for the tut.
|
Oh my word, that is amazing!
|
Thanks for the great tute. I've been looking for a new block to try.
Can you tell me what the blocks measured at the beginning and end? |
Thank you, I've been trying and trying to figure out how to do a D4P and now I think I know. It took me quite awhile to figure out that although the corner blocks changed places in the pictures that they didn't really change places on the block.
|
Really nice! I love it! Thanks for sharing!

Wow, aren't you clever?! I'm new to quilting and haven't done a pinwheel. Thanks for the care to document each step so well. I think I'll be giving this a try!

Well now I know why they call those "charm" packs. Your work is very charming! :D

|
Very nice!
|
Ingenious.
|
Wow! Pretty neat!
|
It's beautiful and looks pretty easy. Pinwheel is my favorite block. :D
|
The 4 patch measured 9 1/2" and the new patch is 7 1/4"
As for the moving of blocks the only blocks that change is the long strips not the half square triangles. It is a little confusing but once you get the hang of it it is amazing. I just made this up last night i will post a picture once i make the quilt!! Thank you all for your kinds words! Jade

Here is an update I only have 4 blocks done my back has been really bad this week and I can only sit for about an hour. Some have wanted to know what a whole quilt looks like this is just an example of 4 blocks I have to say I love how it looks and cannot wait to get the remaining 38 done!!! I love the colors they are warm and inviting. I want to use the solid red as a border and maybe the cream with a pattern I have yet to decide need to see the whole thing done. This will be going to my neighbor she is the sweetest women she doesn't quilt and has 3 boys she works her butt off and I want to do something for her she is so supportive of our family! It seems everytime I find material to make a "ME" quilt it goes to someone I care about!! Looking at it I might add the fabric that has a border type print in the dark tan and red. OHHH getting too many ideas and not enough fabric LOL!!
