The templates for this are sold by a LQS here in Arkansas called Hickory Hill Quilt and Sewing Center. They are their own design and they sell them in their shop. They're about a 1/2 hour away from me, so I went over there last week and bought some for members here who wanted one and mailed them to them. It'll probably be a while before I head over that way again, but if you want to contact them directly I feel pretty sure they would do mail order for you. Their e-mail address is [email protected] If they can't do mail order for you, then let me know and I can get you one the next time I'm over there. It may be a couple of weeks or so, though.

OK I just called and placed my order for all 3 stencils..at first glance thought I could make some myself out of template plastic..then decided just as easy to call and order them.plus we need to support our local shops!....plus i think after I take them to work...maybe the owner of the shop will want to order some wholesale--so HIckory Hill quilt shop said they may consider doing that ...I will call back later after we get them and play with them ourselves!

Wonderful tutorial! The instructions are very clear and it's great that you included a picture of every step. I do, however, have a question on step/picture HQN-21: Why a kite tail? Wouldn't it be just as easy to fold down all the edges and make one continuous line of stitching? What am I missing here? Thanks.

You could do that, but when I was doing it seemed rather difficult to make that last fold because that first fold would have to be undone and the right side of the kite tail edge then stuck underneath that first fold. Kind of like when you have a carboard box and you are folding the 4 flaps under each other and you have to kind of lift one up to slide the last one under it so that all of the edges are holding each other down.

Good point. Hadn't considered that the last "corner" would have to be tucked under the first fold. I like the analogy to closing a cardboard box! Thanks.
