I just bought a 15 91 singer and it was said to be checked over and rebuilt.. so I am thinking it is ready to sew with..I did oil all part just to be on the safe side but am a little stumped on the motor lubricant thing... I figure if this machine was just rebuilt it would have been lubricated ..right? and I should not have to worry about this part..

is there a way to tell if there is enough of a lubricant in the motor.. this isn't like a car that has a dip stick where you check the oil.. right?

it did say in the instruction that this need to be done just every one year,s use.. so i should be good to go Right...Just don't want to have my new machine break before I really get to enjoy it.. Thanks

Have you opened it up and looked inside? I just use vasoline - is the old oil dried and hard? I kind of doubt if you can ruin it if it is turning freely.

How about the wires - are they ok?

Hummm I'll have to see how you open it to look inside... I haven't done that yet.. I think I better see if there is some info on how to open and look inside..

my manual said not to use vaseline, don't know why...

can you see if there is enough lubricate in the machine when you remove the screw?

If you go to the upper right hand corner of your screen you will see a search box. I'm sure you can search and find plenty about vasoline on QB. If not the mafia will soon show up and explain about Vasoline since I'm feeling lazy, too.

I don't know the answer, I take mine in to be done, but had to say.. I love my 15- 91! I have a couple other machines and don't even use them anymore. The only thing I wish is it could do other than straight stitches....

Painiacs, you just need the attachments and you can do more than straight stitches.

Go to Singer { http://www.singerco.com/accessories/instruction-manuals } and download yourself a manual if you don't have one. If you do and your second post seemed to say that, read it. There are instructions in there on how and were to lube the machine.

As for the vaseline vs Singer Motor Lube, there is no Singer Motor Luber any more. Those who have lots more time than I do have experimented with vaseline or actually petroleum jelly and found it to be very similar to the Singer lube.

I always figured that Singer said no vasoline because it was cheaper than their "exclusive" lube.
