301 and FW tables

301 and FW tables
A friend just called and said she found a Singer 301 card table in her daughter's garage. She already has one and wondered if I would like to have it. For free. I actually stuttered as I tried to say "YES!".
My question is this, my friend also has a FW and no table for it. Would there be a way for her to convert the 301 table to hold her FW? I would hate to take the table and find out later she could have used it for her FW.
I do not have a 301 machine yet, but am looking, so if she can convert the table to hold a FW, I would want her to keep the table.
thanks in advance for any comments and advice!

The cut out on the 301 table is too large for the FW. I'm sure someone clever could somehow retrofit the 301 table to hold the FW properly and safely, but the cutout would still not fit right and any modifications to the table would devalue it. I wouldn't feel badly about accepting this generous gift.

I think it must be a sign that I should go ahead and buy a 301. My hubby even came home the other day with a box of Singer attachments that he thought would fit my FW, but they were for a 301! So I have everything but the machine itself!

I don't think that these tables are interchangeable without some cutting or perhaps added metal supports or a plate to fill the extra space. I know my 301 will not fit in my featherweight table. In your case you have the longer space because it is a 301 table so the Featherweight will not take up all of the room and you will have a space needing to be filled. I'm not sure if the metal supports so the machine does not drop through the table would be in the right places either. Best bet would be to set it up and try it out. It may be a simple thing to fill up the extra space and the supports may hold it just fine but I just don't know.

There are no metal supports on the 301 card table. Also before buying a 301 check to see if the table is for a long bed 301 or a short bed 301. I thought the tables were only for the long bed 301 but I saw someone saying they had 1 for the short bed 301.
I am lucky enough to have 2 card tables one - for my long bed 301 and 1 for my featherweight. Unfortunately I have to wait for my kids to head back to college to have room to set them both up at the same time.

Looks like there are metal supports on the card table fits the Singer 400/500 and short bed Singer 301 but not the long bed 301.
