Here's a link to cabinets and folding tables for the various Singer models. http://www.ismacs.net/singer_sewing_...chine_cabinets

After thinking about it for a while, I realized that the machine that would do zig-zag was probably not a 301. That was the beginning of zig-zag machines, I think. I got a zig-zag attachment for the 301A that moved the fabric back and forth. LOL I used it once to put decorative stitching on the bassinet skirt. Didn't work very well. It need stiffer fabric or stabilizer.

I researched a little more and found my serial number. It is NA271321. I found that this machine was stamped with a serial number in 1953. So, apparently it was in stock from 1953 until I bought it in 1956. Thought you might like to hear where one machine is.

The serial number is stamped in the frame of the machine on the bottom under the bobbin end. Most of the 301s were made in early 1950s. Mine is a 1951 also. Love that cabinet...the cabinets are not that easy to find. You can easily take the machine out of the cabinet to use as a table top...there is a latch on the bottom to release it. They have a plate on the bottom and feet (that can be replaced if yours are hard and cracked) so it can be portable. Mine didn't have a cabinet or a case when I got it.

What I'm really looking for is a ruffler attachment for my 301A. I completely wore mine out with 4 daughters and square dance dresses. It worked beautifully until the blue steel tooth thingie broke.
