Default Brother machine-with Sears 128-on the back

I saw a Brother machine at the thrift store, it had red on the front, very pretty, it had no model number on the front, I looked on the back and it was made in tiawan for sears it had a 128- number on the back. Are any of you familiar with this machine? I would have gotten it but it had no cord or foot control, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to find one.

The motor wasn't on the outside. It was inclosed. I don't think it is an old machine, maybe 80's or 90's. It had a lot of plastic, it wasn't a drop in bobbin. The red across the front was unusual.

After some research on line, I find the Brother machine is a VX 810, the foot control can be purchased from searspartsonline, for 48.24 and I also found another website that has them for 32.35, I will think about it, since I don't know if it will sew. I really don't need it, but what can I say, I love sewing machines.

Isn't that funny, I also just purchased that same machine at a thrift store and had no idea how it would work. I made an offer of 10.00 and got it. It did run, but when I got it home and threaded and tried sewing, the underside was a mess. It had no extra anything with it, but did have a bobbin in it. So I proceeded to remove the bobbin and clean out that area and tried sewing again and still the mess on the underside. So, next I removed the plate and holy smokes, what a mess under there. I cleaned that and it sews like a topper. My back up machine

Personally, I tend to stay away from newer sewing machines, especially if I might have to spend more than I did on the machine to get a power cord, and extra especially if I didn't even know if the machine was going to work even after I bought the power cord.

I am able to find a lot of older Singer and Kenmore machines at good prices, so I go for those.

I only buy older ones myself, but, the red was so unusual, I try to buy only the ones that have the foot pedal, because you never know if they are going to work. I see lots of newer brothers at the thrift store, but, they don't temp me like the older sewing machines do.grin
