Clarificaton 3/4 size machine, singer 201, 221 vs 221-1
Okay, I know there is the featherweight, a 3/4 size machine and a full-size machine...are there actual measurements that would help me determine whether something is a 3/4 or a full size? Or are "we" just eyeballing it?
Regarding Singers: the main difference between a Singer 15 and a Singer 99 is where the tension knob is located, right? Is the Singer 201 a 3/4 size? If not, what is the difference between a 99 and a 201? Oh these little details!
Last question: What is the difference between a 221 and a 221-1? Anyone?

Singer 15 and 201 and 66 are all full-size machines. Afaik, all 201-2 made in USA have the "potted" electric motor. There are 201K machines from Britain that can be used in treadles or as handcrank machines, or can have a belt-driven motor bolted onto them. All 201 have the tension on the front of the machine. All have that "paperclip" decal set, to my best recollection. All 201s are wide across, from the pillar to the needle bar. The 201 is the widest in that respect, except for perhaps the 127 shuttle machine.

Yes, there are measurements but I never learned what they are. Just Google and study the images. Doesn't take long to start being able to ID the model just by sight. The 99 and the 66 are the only ones that I have to look at twice, sometimes, and that's mostly only if the photo is taken from an unusual angle.
I don't remember what is 221 vs. 221-1. Maybe 221-1 is when they stitched from scrolled to striated faceplate?

Another check you can make to determine which model you have is to
check the model number of the motor (see the plate mounted on the motor).
Each of the four models of the featherweights were originally furnished with
a different motor.
Model 221-1 Model Series 3 Motor
Model 221K4 Model CAK7 Motor
Model 221K5 Model CAJ6-8 Motor
Model 221K7 Model CAK8-8 Motor
Another distinguishing feature of the 221K4 is it is the only
featherwieght model that has R.F. suppression with grounded wiring. All
that means is that it shouldn't interfere with radio or T.V. signals and
there should be a three prong plug to insert into the wall outlet.
