Default Davis VF question

My machine has this hole in the front edge of the bed.

From looking around, I'm pretty sure it is for a long screw that would screw into a case or cabinet to hold the machine in (like my White). However I've also seen some Davis made machines that have a latch or catch of some sort to hold the machine in, and there is a spring loaded button in this location.

Can anyone verify which type this machine should have? There is no molding on the underside to indicate something was there.

I believe it's going to be a thumbscrew (bolt).

Cathy,

I have a Domestic made Franklin treadle, a White Dressmaster, a White made Kenmore 117-812, and a Kenmore 120-491 that has that hole. They all have a thumb screw through the hole into a bracket underneath to hold the head closed.

I'd say that the case base or cabinet will determine which fitting needs to be in the hole of your machine. The two Davis treadles that I've had both had screws.

I'm making a base for this, so I could go either way. Lots simpler to go with a thumb screw, and cheaper too as I don't need to hunt on ebay for one of them.

I have seen some where it appears to be a screw, but you give it a quarter turn and it swings a lower bracket out of the way. The screw is about the most unhandy of the lot - as you have to fully remove it (and hope you don't lose it) to flip the machine up for maintenance.
