Speaking of making an offer:

Nope, I will not be doing that. Wouldn't have a clue as to what they expect to get for this machine in the weed patch.

I will ask if a listed price is their nicest price. A make an offer, I will offer a nice number but a bargain in my favor. If someone says make an offer, they should not be offended but politely say something like, I'd like to get a bit more or suggest the buyer reconsider their offer. my $.02

Sorta applicable, from a stupid ad point of view...., I am looking for a cheap starter Motorcripple.... I put in the search "Runs good" i got one of the reply ads that did indeed have that in the "keywords" section, but the ad says "needs engine" sheesh!!!!

I usually don't dicker much on craig's list deals. I'm usually an hour or more away from the seller and I wouldn't call if the listed price wasn't already attractive to me. I figure the full asking price is fair for holding the item for me.
Garage sales, swap meets, things of that nature, I always ask for a lower price unless I know I'm already stealing the item in question.

Runs good when you push it?
I've also found that "great condition" usually means "insurance write off" or "only low sided a little... "
