I had an experience at a quilt guild that should happen to no one..
i purchased many unopened boxes of fabric at an estate sale. When i got them home i discovered thousands of pieces of poly knit squares. I decided to turn them into charity quilts and displayed many at "show n tell". As i was leaving the meeting, a remark was loudly made behind me " you're not a REAL quilter unless you use 100% cotton". This was about the fifth time her snide remarks had been simed at me and i was fed up...
my response was" well, in my opinion you are not a REAL quilter until you can quilt with fabric that stretches in every direction and make the seams match!"
oddly that was the last of those remarks, as she purchased all her quilts as finished tops!
Sometimes you just need to shut thise folks down!

The featherweight thing is only funny if it's not happening to you. Some people just shouldn't go out in public. If she gives you any more grief about your machine tell her to prove you wrong. You know she won't be able to. Didn't Singer make another newer plastic machine they called a featherweight? Maybe that's what she was thinking. Either way she was rude.

Oh man...I work pretty closely with a guy who is a poster child for being a "know-it-all". He thinks he knows EVERYTHING about EVERYTHING, argues about everything, gets really mad if you prove him wrong, and will pout for hours if you disagree with him on something. Doesn't matter what you're talking about, he knows everything about it and will tell you why you (and your doctor/dentist/lawyer/mother) are wrong about whatever it is you're talking about. It's so tiresome. BUT it's given me a TON of practice in dealing with those snoopy, butt-insky, know-it-all type people!!

If she shows up at another meeting and starts up with this behavior again...could you ask her to bring in info to prove what she is saying? That should shut her up or if she can bring info in....maybe it will be something useful.

When she told me it was not a singer Featherweight, I would have calmly said "prove it".

I would just tell little miss "it ain't a featherweight" that "she's right, it is a tomato bender" and walk away...

I've had to smile at times and say "I'm sorry - it seems you are under the misconception that your opinion matters to me, and well, it doesn't. Thank you, however, for making your point of view so easy to understand." Kill 'em with kindness, and big words. Usually works.

Tell her to just do the research on it. She will prove herself wrong. I have 4 of the light whitish green ones a beige one and about 5 black ones and a black free arm one they all say featherweight on them. She would not want to say that to me.
