It looks like most of that sellers machines go for abnormally high prices.
He knows how to sell. Great marketing and great pics. He shows pics of the machine torn apart for servicing to show what he did to it, and I guarantee that the pic he shows of it sewing through a leather belt helped get that price. I feel sorry for the buyer if they try to give it a steady diet of leather.

We have a seller down my way that advertises every machine they has as "heavy duty" or "industrial". I'm 100% sure they know the machines are NOT, but they sell better that way. Marketing plays a huge part in SM sales. There are people out there that don't mind paying the high price if they can rest assured that the machine is pristine and has been fully serviced.

When did they stop making the 201 that had the silver plate on top that the spool pin fit in to?

That question was discussed on the VintageSinger Yahoo group recently. IIRC, the consensus was sometime in the late 40s to early 50s. My 201-2 is a 1955 model and it doesn't have it.

The treadle irons on this are fancy enough. But look at the third picture with the bed of the machine! http://www.blocket.se/jonkoping/Anti...a_58143555.htm

    That one is a beauty!

I've read that Singer would put your name on the MOP machines - if you were willing to pay the price.

She sure is gorgeous. The irons look good as does the name on the bed.
