Got My New 221 Featherweight - Yay!
#1
Tonight I picked up my new featherweight :-D She is so pretty! I answered an older ad on craigs list that my husband ran across. I expected to hear it was sold. The gentleman who answered the phone told me this had belonged to his wife who passed away. She bought this little featherweight sometime in the 1950's. It was made in 1948. She was a quilter, made clothes and dolls too.
I haven't decided on a name for her yet but have a list going :-D I'm looking forward to us making many quilts together.

Yay! Congrats. But pics too please if possible. My first FW was owned by a woman and her sister until the sister gave up sewing in her late 80's. She wanted the $$ for something else, was aware of its value, but wanted it to go to someone who sews rather than a dealer. I've since gotton 2 more, but I'll be keeping my first and handing it down to my kids!

Thank you for the congratulations. I'll take a picture of her and post it for you to see.
Does anyone know if the 221 can sew through layers? I am planning a denim rag quilt but don't want to hurt her. I've read the 222's & 301's can do this with no problem.

Congrats on the new to you machine!! Its wonderful that you know some of the history behind her and now you can continue the stewardship.
I dont know if I would try to force it to sew through all of those heavy layers. But I have not used one of these only to test run it after I repaint it. So hopefully some of our more knowledgeable members will pitch in and let you know about that. Cant wait to see photos of her!!!
