Default Singer Model 319 Question

I am considering a Singer 319 and have a question, please. Is this one of the zig zag models that needs to have a cam in place before it will sew? I seem to remember one model which must have a cam in or it won't even straight stitch. Any help is greatly appreciated!

No, the 319 has some built in cams. It doesn't need a disc to operate or do a straight stitch. However, there are like 24 other discs you can purchase to do other decorative stitches.

Thank you, Candace! I have a box of cams I picked up for $2 about 6 months ago, now they'll have a machine. Yay! I love the looks of this machine, she's very clean and in a nice cabinet and only $35. Think I better go rescue her. Thanks again!

the 319 is a FAST machine ! I find the bobbin hard to replace, so don't use it much.

There is a cute youtube video of a 319 that has been converted into a treadle.

She shows some of the stitches that it does. After watching it I had put a 319 on my wish list and I eventually found one on Craigslist.

Hi Cabbagepatchkid: Thanks for the link to you tube. Found videos for my 401A and it was reassuring that I seem to be doing things correctly.

Be aware that the 319 does NOT use standard needles.
