Singer 319?

I saw a blog thar refered to the 319 as the Singer that should be forgotten. I was wondering what other people's opinions of this machine were?

I love mine! It doesn't do well with a 1/4" foot (the kind with the edge-it doesn't match well with the feed dogs) so I had to learn to use the screw-in guide, but wow. Mine just goes and goes. And I was lucky enough to get a complete set of cams with mine, so the possibilities for fancy stitches are endless.

It is kind of loud, probably because of the way the 'typewriter keys' are open and not completely enclosed, which means you can hear more of the mechanism than you usually would, I think. But still, I really like it!

My 319 got me collecting vintage and I love it! It does take a special needle a 206 X13----I have pieced many quilts on it!

It's a cool machine, though it's one of the slower machines Singer made. The motor power isn't great. Several people treadle it and love it that way.

After watching this Youtube video about a 319 conversion to treadle I wanted to get one. I found one really cheap on Craigslist.

My wife loves hers. Who ever said to forget the 319 was probably a salesman trying to sell a new electronic wonder plastic wanna bee.

If you have trouble finding the 206-13 needles you can use the round shank DBx1 industrial needles. Just orient them correctly and go on sewing.

Great machines.
