Default Kenmore 120-491

Good Morning,

I recently purchased a Kenmore 120-491 for my teenage daughter. I broke it all down cleaned it up and it runs like a champ! It came with a ton of accessories like the button hole attachment with lots of cams. The only issue we have is I can't find a manual anywhere for it and we are not sure if we are threading the machine correctly, the top of the stitching looks fine, but, the under side is a huge mess. Could you help us out? My daughter really wants to start quilting and I don't have the cash to lay out for a new machine

Thanks so much

Did you try sewusa.com? They have a ton of threading diagrams.

Usually when i have large thread nests with my Kenmore's i always think upper tension is loose.

Check on Sears.com. I think they used to have free downloadable manuals and parts lists.

as a rule of thumb - a mess on the underside is a top tension issue. Put on two different colored threads and you will know which one is the problem quickly. And if you don't have it threaded quite right -that is the normal result, a rat's nest on the underside.

They are very fun machines, I'm looking to get one just because I love all the attachments you can get for them. Passed up two that DH said were not nice enough for the price.
