I don't know if we've every used a set of blueprints. We've always done the design ourselves.

Where were you when we did our sunroom? We added it ourselves with the help of mostly willing kids and grandkids; none of which could read a blueprint--if we had had one. Ten people spent (wasted) three days trying to figure out how to put up three walls and accommodate 11 windows. We finally remembered to call in a marker (a good friend of ours) who "showed" the builders what to do, and it got done in 1/2 a day. But we have a perfect view of fields, and mountains (hills to the locals, but I'm from Louisiana, so they look like mountains to me) and the leaves in the Fall.

Got the north side of the roof done. Won't have pictures until Tuesday when I'll be home during daylight again. DH put the last few shingles up using his cap flashlight. It's always harder this time of year when the sun sets so early.

I plan on taking Tuesday off we'll get the second half of the roof done. It's suppose to be pretty decent that day.

Several of my children have added onto or finished off spaces. They put in "in-floor heating". They love it. The floor is always warm and it doesn't matter a bit where you put furniture and things. You could still do that as long as your floor isn't "topped" with other finishing or carpet. One daughter had ceiling heat in her apartment. She really liked that, too. If you had ceiling heat you would also take advantage of the natural heat of the earth under the floor. But that wouldn't really be as noticeable. Ask some friends that have done these things. You wouldn't be sorry.

I haven't figured out permanent heating for my art studio - still using two oil-filled radiators. I have foam insulation in the ceiling and insulation they make out of old blue jeans in the walls. But the thing that has worked great for cooling is a poultry fan at the peak. It's good and strong and really keeps it pretty comfortable. It took me a while to find the fan, but I've been really happy with it. You can see the fan over the door in this picture.

The building is one of those Amish storage sheds and we added electric, more doors, windows, etc. Still don't have a good floor - it's uninsulated plywood on 6x6s (or 4x4s) on a gravel bed. Moved two sewing machines in there today...uh oh.
