Default 301 foot problem

Right away when Betty Lou our 301 arrived the foot seemed to be angled off to the left at the front and crowded the needle. But the stitching was fine. There are also very deep grooves in the front half of the needle plate. We just purchased an AlphaSew walking foot from Glen and are unable to get it lined up. It seems like the shaft holding the foot was turned a little bit. Can we loosen the screws in the shaft and turn it a hair. If we turn it to the right a little I think the original foot would line up properly with the feed dogs. Then maybe the AlphaSew foot would also work.

Yes, there is a set screw that you loosen to adjust the position of the presser foot shaft. First back off the tension adjuster so your not fighting that. You can check the presser foot height then too, if it's off you can fix that at the same time.
I'm not sure what the spec is, but my 401A is .295" from the bottom of the foot to the needle plate, feed dogs down.

It sounds like it got bumped in shipping and turned. Yes, move it back. The 301 walking foot is not great. It's too large for the feed dogs as it's made for a zig zag machine and not a straight stitch machine. YOu will find it does not line up properly with the feed dogs.
